2011

This year Margarita's plans are to help the members with the smooth transition of jobs and positions within the Club and to maintain good high morale and productivity. The Club has gained the privilege of being part of Rotary International's Pilot Program: Innovative and Flexible Rotary Club Pilot Program. This privilege has been awarded to only 200 clubs around the world. With this and all of the Clubs other yearly projects we can expect to hear lots of great reports in the months to come.

Rotary International theme: Building Communities, Bridging Continents

Recognitions

  1. Presidential Citation with Distinction – what a great club! All members worked hard for this result.
  2. District 9640 award for Youth Projects and Special Project.
  3. Turtle Award for Kids In Need Dragon Boat Race.
  4. Golden Cog Award, the first, went to Glenn Nott.
Bridging Continents
  • Facilitated Ambassadorial Scholar, Grace Vining to represent District 9640 and study in Mexico.
  • Hosted a inbound YEP student from Brazil (Luis Furquim).
  • Sponsored an outbound YEP student to the USA (Chanel McCarthy Partridge).
  • Created a unique Aussie bushdance experience for District 9640 Inbound YEP students.
  • Hosted Group Study Exchange team from Missouri, USA.
  • Auspiced donations to Mission In Action Orphanage, Nakuru, Kenya.
  • Continued support of projects in Nepal and Papua New Guinea.
  • Participated in a RAWCS building project in Samoa.

Building Communities

  • Raised almost $7,000 for flood relief efforts in Queensland.
  • Inaugural Youth Film Fest for Murwillumbah.
  • Inspired and participated in the Artemissia Project, which renovated the home of a severely disabled child in Burringbar.
  • Competed in charity dragon boat races for Kids In Need.
  • Donated money to;
    • Palliative Support
    • Sam, a Kenyan student in need in Australia
    • You Have A Friend and Tweed Women’s Shelter
    • Life Education
    • Usborne Dictionary School Project and Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts
    • Sponsored six young people in Rotary youth activities – RYTES, RYLA and RYPEN.
    • Last Hurrah dinner with other cluster Rotary clubs.

    Rotary Foundation

  • Donated over $100 per member to Rotary Foundation directly and via Polio Plus.
  • Created three new Paul Harris Fellows: John Lee from You Have A Friend and members Cathy Akehurst and Judy Parker.
  • Witnessed club’s first Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire, Bruce Flynn.
  • Arranged presentation of PHF Award to Heather Tannock in Samoa by visiting Rotarians from RAWCS.

The Future

  1. Established a Strategic Plan.
  2. Launched the club as one of only 200 Pilot Clubs for the Rotary International Innovation and Flexibility program.

2009

Our rock-steady Cathy guided us through a shining year.

Initiated relationship with You Have A Friend, help for local homeless.

Open Garden at Heavenly Daylilly Farm. Our very own Queen Betty and Brian (husband) received OAM! Celebrated our 10th Anniversary. PP Glenn Nott was made the Tweed's Citizen of the Year.

For the first time we saw our 'Gong' go on a holiday.

Grace Vining - first Ambassadorial Scholar for our club.

Appointed Simone Wong as Youth Ambassador as a long term local project.

2008

Jan wheeled the club with focus and we successfully achieved all of these tasks.

Over $5000 raised for Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Thalia Allsop Banana Festival entrant donated two wheelchairs

Sponsored Nepal Children’s Medical Centre for $18,400 through a Matching Grant, also sponsored Xing Xing Orphanage in China.

This smile-aholic kept our club a huge success.

Helped initiate Supporting People In Exceptional Situations (S.P.I.E.S.). Introduced Espatch (electronic Dispatch).

Sponsored Grace Molloy in the Banana Festival. Kept up support for youth programs. Introduced the 'Fellowship Vessel'- this is a container that members pass on to each other once a month.

2006

Brenda grouped the club together grounding our new found love for overseas projects.

The club welcomed six New Zealanders through the Friendship Exchange. Hosted the clubs first Group Study Exchange, involving Rotarians from India and Nepal.

Splendorous Melbourne Cup day. Sponsored Kylie Colefax in Banana Festival.

Very proudly Presented $45,000 to Tweed Shire Council for Hydrotherapy Pool.

Another first for our club was Pride of Workmanship awards.

Made White Olive our home.

2005

Vicki programmed our club full of exciting jobs in the continuation of our major project "The Hydrotherapy pool".

Hydrotherapy pool - Bush Wedding, Taylor Made Premiere. Australia Day BBQ.

Sponsored university student in Papua New Guinea with the assistance of Brother Andrew Simpson OBE of the university of Madang.

We ran a very succesful Banana Festival ball.

Well needed weekend away to Brisbane was welcomed by all members.

2004

Glenn managed to cruise along and fill the club with funship for the year as we celebrated 100 years of Rotary.

Murwillumbah Rotary Club gong was sent on a virtual holiday, with postcards mailed back to the club as a record of it's wonderful trip.

Sponsored Matthew Rickard from Australia and hosted Callum Timmings from New Zealand on SME (South Pacific Exchange).

Sponsored the winning Wollumbin High School team in MUNA. Sponsored Hanna Groff in the Siemens Science Expedience.

Debated sex and chocolate with South Tweed Heads Rotary club. Our Centenery project was to refurbish Town Clock. Enjoyed fellowship trip away to Maleny QLD.

2003

Betty Hammill shone bright as she led us through a good year of learning.

Introduced Cheyne Thompson to Mad Max in the Banana Festival as our Banana Queen.

Raised money to help the opening of Mount Warning Respite House.

Speed on Tweed was introduced to Murwillumbah with our club helping out on main gates. 'Woeful Evening' officially started fundraising towards Hydrotherapy pool project.

Fellowship trip to Stanthorpe was a welcomed trip by all.

Sponsored Y.E.P. student ( Youth Exchange Program ) outbound Amelia Parkins to Finland as well as Hosted Margaret Ahrens exchange student from Germany.

2002

Ann thrusted us forward with a very successful Mental Health Forum. Mental Health Forum was held at the Civic Centre and received with great response by Murwillumbah.

Sponsored Elizabeth Teitzel in Banana festival. RTA opening of the new highway saw us in catering and touring guide roles.

Developed club signs. Released our very own controversial "Dare to Bare" calander.

Sponsored Matthew Anderson to National Youth Science school to Canberra.

2001

Second President was our mild mannered superman Bruce FlynnAM Headlines!

Bruce held us together through the turmoils of the second year.

One of the clubs first efforts was to present Certificates to 11 “unsung heroes” in theme with the 2001 Year of the Volunteer, also hosted International Year of Volunteers Celebration in Knox Park

Club shirts were organised. Club Hosted Anna Stiina Servio from Finland YEP (Youth Exchange student).

Sponsored and participated in Banana Festival Best club float with Amanda Haigh as Charity Queen winner. Club also managed to sponsor Literacy, catering, academic, Siemens science, Organ donors, Rotary youth and MUNA Programmes.

2000

Our Inagural President was our funloving Di KerrPriscilla Queen of the Tweed

Chartered 28th June 2000! Di daringly managed to take us through our early achievements.

Sponsored and participated in Banana Festival with the hillarious theme of Priscilla Queen of the Tweed. Designed and promoted organ donor bumper stickers with the great logo of 'Get Organ-ized'.

CPR training for members and a great Trivia night were some of our great beginnings.

For New Generation we sponsored Karen Matthews from Australia and hosted Amy Morgan from New Zealand on SME (South Pacific Exchange).
